Welcome to my first official post of Net.Star!

The most basic and used skill in Netball is to chest pass. This pass is used for quick, short and accurate passes. If you watch people play on TV or just at a local netball court, you’ll see that chest passing is one of the most necessary skills that that you need to know. Before we get started make sure you find someone that you can pass to (or if necessary a wall). I personally wouldn’t recommend a wall as it is a lot more complex to develop your skills. But enough of that! If your looking to learn or become better at chest passing, follow these steps;

Step 1:

  • Stand up straight, facing your partner (or wall). Make sure there is approximately 5 feet of space between you.

Step 2:

  • Make sure your thumbs and index fingers form a ‘w’ shape around the ball leaving the remaining fingers to spread behind the ball to push away from the chest.

Step 3:

  • Focusing the tension in your chest, pass the ball straight and forward aiming for your partners chest (or a certain point in the wall).

Step 4:

  • As you and your partner (or a wall) throw back an forth from each other, try to speed up the passing to get used to what it would be like in a real game.

Step 5:

  • As you learn to get more speed when passing the ball, you can transfer weight onto the the left foot giving you more stronger and forward passes.

And there you have it! You have just learnt one of the most necessary skills used in Netball. Hopefully this blog post has helped you to develop better skills when playing the game of Netball!

Thanks for tuning in, catch you soon! My next post is out now!

Emily.
