How to Shoot a Goal

https://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/England+v+Australia+International+Netball+ymdGxJdJ4fvx.jpg

Hey guys!

So another skill that is definitely KEY when it comes to Netball is shooting. Learning to shoot can be hard but once you get the hang of it, you will find its actually pretty simple. When shooting, a technique that is frequently used is a one handed shot. The other hand is just a support hand and rests lightly on the side of the ball. Junior players will have trouble with strength using a high release with one hand, and so may lower the ball to get more power. As they get older and stronger, you can encourage them to again increase the height of the ball on release. But enough of that! Let’s get started;

Step 1:

  • Stand with feet shoulder width apart on the balls of your feet.
  • Keep the body straight in a forward-facing position.

Step 2:

  • Place non-shooting hand on the side of the ball and the shooting hand at the back of the ball.
  • Fingers are slightly open, with the ball resting in the fingers, holding the ball high above the head.

Step 3:

  • Make sure your elbows are slightly flexed, lined in the direction of the post.
  • Flex knees and elbows, not allowing the ball to drop behind your head.

Step 4:

  • Now, extend your ankles, knees and elbows.
  • Flex your wrists as the ball is released off your fingers.

(Refer to image below to get a better understanding of step 4)

Step 5:

  • Straighten your legs by extending the knees at the same time as you release the ball.
  • End the shot standing on tiptoes with your arms extended and fingers pointing towards the ring.

And there you have it! You have just learnt another main skill of netball! I really hope my blogs have so far been helping you guys expand your knowledge on Netball and learn new skills.

Thanks for tuning in once again! Goodbye for now!

How to Bounce Pass

Welcome back!

So another skill that is key when it comes to Netball is bounce passing. I find that this pass is used when an area on the court is crowded and should only be used over a short distance. It is a good pass to teach shorter players who have trouble passing around a defenderʼs long arms. If you have ever seen really experienced players use this skill, they usually only use this pass inside the goal circle to feed shooters. Now, before we get started make sure you find someone you can pass to (and obviously get a ball you can use).

Step 1:

  • A bounce pass can be one or two-handed. When you’re ready, you can either hold the ball to the side or at chest height.

Step 2:

  • Make sure your fingers are pointing towards the floor of the court.

Step 3:

  • Stand with one of your feet forward so you can bend your knees as you make the pass.

(Refer to image below to get a better understanding of steps 1, 2 and 3)

Step 4:

  • For this step, you need to release the ball from waist height. Use the power from your arms and knees as you push the ball forward.

Step 5:

  • Aim the ball just over halfway between you and the receiver – this will help your team-mate catch the ball.

Step 6:

  • Extend your arms as you make the pass to keep the ball on the right path.

(Refer to image below to get a better understanding of steps 4, 5 and 6)

And there you have it! You have just learnt another key skill when it comes to playing Netball! I hope you guys are so far enjoying my website and are learning a lot from my blogs.

Thanks for tuning in, catch you soon! My next post is out now!

How to chest pass

https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/1024/cpsprodpb/C34A/production/_107849994_kelseybrowne_hero_getty.jpg

Welcome to my first official post of Net.Star!

The most basic and used skill in Netball is to chest pass. This pass is used for quick, short and accurate passes. If you watch people play on TV or just at a local netball court, you’ll see that chest passing is one of the most necessary skills that that you need to know. Before we get started make sure you find someone that you can pass to (or if necessary a wall). I personally wouldn’t recommend a wall as it is a lot more complex to develop your skills. But enough of that! If your looking to learn or become better at chest passing, follow these steps;

Step 1:

  • Stand up straight, facing your partner (or wall). Make sure there is approximately 5 feet of space between you.

Step 2:

  • Make sure your thumbs and index fingers form a ‘w’ shape around the ball leaving the remaining fingers to spread behind the ball to push away from the chest.

Step 3:

  • Focusing the tension in your chest, pass the ball straight and forward aiming for your partners chest (or a certain point in the wall).

Step 4:

  • As you and your partner (or a wall) throw back an forth from each other, try to speed up the passing to get used to what it would be like in a real game.

Step 5:

  • As you learn to get more speed when passing the ball, you can transfer weight onto the the left foot giving you more stronger and forward passes.

(Refer to image below to get a better understanding of step 5)

And there you have it! You have just learnt one of the most necessary skills used in Netball. Hopefully this blog post has helped you to develop better skills when playing the game of Netball!

Thanks for tuning in, catch you soon! My next post is out now!
